Get Back On Your Feet
Burning, shooting pain in the ball of your foot that radiates through the toes is a hallmark symptom of a Morton’s Neuroma.
Numbness or tingling is another. The pain is caused by thickened nerve tissue at the base of one of your metatarsals.
This nerve thickening can also feel like a pebble in your shoe, constantly pressing on your foot as you walk. Morton’s Neuroma can worsen over time, and your ability to engage in activities like walking or sports shrinks as the neuroma grows. The impact can be devastating to your overall physical and emotional health. Dr. Miguel Cunha and his associates at Morton's Neuroma Center specialize in cryosurgery treatment of Morton’s Neuroma. Cryosurgery has the highest success rate and lowest risk of complications of any treatment available. Many patients travel to us for Morton’s Neuroma care because of our expertise and innovative treatments. Cryosurgery performed by one of our leading specialists takes away the pain and opens up your world again.

(In Person or Online)
At Morton's Neuroma Center Morton’s Neuroma makes it difficult to make unnecessary trips. That’s why Dr. Cunha will meet with you in person or online to review your case and determine your eligibility for cryosurgery. We want to make this journey as simple and painless as possible for you.
If you decide to get cryosurgery, our concierge team will help you with travel and lodging recommendations. There are excellent dining and hotel options within moments of our surgery center, and we’ll do whatever we can to help you feel comfortable and well cared for throughout your journey to New York.
Cryosurgery is a relatively quick surgery (in most cases it takes less than 30 minutes) that can be done in our center with local anesthesia. Following your Morton's Neuroma treatment we will monitor your response to the treatment and then let you return to the hotel to recover with the help of a driver.
In most cases, patients are able to put limited weight on the foot within 24 hours. We encourage our patients to stay off their feet as much as possible following surgery to give their feet the best chance to heal. Full recovery for athletics and sports typically takes about three months, but you can resume normal walking and day-to-day activities (including travel home) within three days in most cases.
A Morton’s Neuroma can range from slightly uncomfortable to extremely painful.
Pressure on the ball of the foot, such as that caused by wearing high heels, is often the culprit behind the neuroma’s formation. Once the neuroma begins forming, it tends to get worse over time, as pressure on the foot when walking causes the tissue around the nerve to continue thickening.
The physical discomfort of Morton’s Neuroma can cause you to avoid activities like sports or long walks. This can have a psychological impact as well because the range of activities you once enjoyed is curtailed. Don’t sit out on your life any longer. With cryosurgery for Morton’s Neuroma patients can take the pain away and get back to being their most active selves.
A Neuroma is a benign tumor that develops in nerve tissue, usually in response to trauma, pressure, or overuse.
Morton’s Neuroma refers to the development of a neuroma in one of the nerves that lead to the toes, most often the nerve between the metatarsals of the third and fourth toes.
People who have Morton’s Neuroma often describe a sensation similar to having a pebble stuck in their shoe. Symptoms of Morton’s Neuroma include a burning or shooting pain in the ball of the foot that spreads upward to the toes. Numbness and tingling in the toes are also common. Left untreated, the condition tends to become more painful over time, impacting mobility and the ability to participate in sports and other activities.
Non-invasive measures like changing footwear and adjusting activities can be enough to curtail the symptoms of Morton’s Neuroma for some people. If these measures fail to provide relief, surgery is often the next step. The traditional surgical treatment for Morton’s Neuroma is to excise the neuroma from the affected nerve.
However, this approach carries a high risk of complications. Often, when the neuroma is severed, the affected nerve will regrow a small bud, or “stump,” of new tissue that is extremely sensitive, further exacerbating painful symptoms.
Cryosurgery takes a different approach. In a cryosurgery procedure, extreme cold is introduced and applied to the neuroma via a very small incision. This shrinks and degenerates the nerve tissue that is sending pain signals to the brain. This Morton's Neuroma treatment is minimally invasive and usually takes about 25 minutes to complete.
With cryosurgery, there is no risk of stump formation. The incision created to introduce the cold is very small, so healing time is quick. Most people return to work and other regular activities the next day. We have found that 85% of our patients obtain symptom relief after one session. In some cases, a second treatment is performed to resolve all pain. No other approach carries such a high success rate and low risk of side effects.
